Overview

A Two-Night Mini Online Course

Join prolific picture book author Sudipta Bardhan-Quallen for this short course to advance your picture book manuscript.  Learn how you can increase emotional resonance and foster connection with your readers by revising elements like plot, pacing, character, and more.

This program is a great fit if you’re looking for a short course of two, 75-minute sessions offering limited interaction with the community, but a lot of information for picture book creatives.

  • Monday, January 27, 2025 (7pm – 8:15pm Eastern)
  • Wednesday, January 29, 2025 (7pm – 8:15pm Eastern)
  • Webinar-style program with closed captioning available and limited interaction in the chat
  • You’ll have access to the recordings through February 28, 2025.

Why This Workshop?

Picture book readers are a sophisticated bunch! They want the very best stories to dive into again and again. How can writers deepen their work to meet the expectations of readers and publishers, alike?

Revise. Revise. Revise.

This short course will discuss advanced techniques to revise your drafts with skill (and maybe a little humor, too!)

Topics include:

  • improving the pacing of the plot,
  • enhancing the character development,
  • elevating the overall emotional resonance
  • the state of the current market.

Feedback Expected

  • None included in the course. There will be limited interaction in the chat feature of the webinar-style program.

It’s a Great Fit for…

  • You have written a picture book (or twenty) and want to amp up the plot and emotion in the narrative. This course will give you advanced revision tools to deepen your work.
  • You have written a picture book (or two hundred) and want to develop your characters fully. This course will look at character development, consistency, and agency.
  • You’re looking for a picture book workshop with a minimal time commitment. This mini course will let you keep developing craft skills without investing a lot of time, and help you pinpoint areas where you may want to invest more time when it comes to picture book revision.
  • You’re looking for something short, sweet, and smart. This is not a full workshop; it is two, 75-minute session with limited engagement meant to provide advanced picture book revision strategies.

Tentative Agenda

At registration: You will receive a Zoom link to use each night of the course.

Note: Sessions take place via Zoom. It is a good idea for you to install Zoom prior to the workshop. As a mini, this course will ask you to mute your microphones and hide your video to maximize time with the faculty lectures.

IF YOU CAN’T ATTEND LIVE:

If you are unable to attend either session for any reason, you’ll have access to the recordings (with closed captioning) through February 28, 2025.

  • Please note that if you cannot attend live but you’d like to receive recording links by email, you must register for this course.  Recordings are not sold separately; they are only available to those who register.
  • Please also note that if you register for the course after the start of the first session, you will not receive recordings immediately.  You’ll receive both recordings after the close of the last session, usually within 24 hours.

All Times are Eastern Standard Time.
