This program is a great fit if you’re looking for two, 75-minute sessions offering limited interaction with the community, that is jammed packed with information to help you explore the great big world of nonfiction topics, structures, and presentation possibilities. If you are unable to attend either session for any reason, you’ll have access to the recordings (with closed captioning) through May 31, 2025.

  • Tuesday, April 22, 2025 (7pm – 8:15pm Eastern)
  • Thursday, April 24, 2025 (7pm – 8:15pm Eastern)
  • Webinar-style program with closed captioning available and limited interaction in the chat
  • You’ll have access to the recordings through May 31, 2025.

Why This Workshop?

Readers love to engage with facts—from their natural world to people and important events in history. Nonfiction picture books can open the door to such topics like nothing else. Join celebrated nonfiction authors Mélina Mangal (The Vast Wonder of the World: Biologist Ernest Everett Just, winner of the Carter G. Woodson Award) and Rob Sanders (A Song For The Unsung: Bayard Rustin, The Man Behind The 1963 March On Washington, winner of the 2024 Jane Addams Prize for children’s books) as they help you navigate the many possibilities to craft your own nonfiction picture book.

Topics include:

  • FIVE kinds of nonfiction,
  • Entry points to the facts for young readers,
  • Social justice, biographies, nature, and more (ideas are everywhere!),
  • Nonfiction picture book analysis,
  • and more!

If you are unable to attend either session for any reason, you’ll have access to the recordings (with closed captioning) through May 31, 2025.

Feedback Expected

  • None included in the course. There will be limited interaction in the chat feature of the webinar-style program.
