In Honor of Shirley Wendlandt

Shirley’s Garden was created in honor of Shirley Wendlandt, a granddaughter of Garry & Caroline Myers, founders of Highlights for Children

A Frequent Visitor to Boyds Mills

Shirley spent many summers at Boyds Mills. Her time here often included helping her grandparents in their victory garden in the back yard. In her adult life, Shirley served on the board of directors of Highlights for many years. Her contributions to the company and the Myers family are significant and a meaningful part of the generational stewardship practiced by the Myers family.

Upon her passing, her family wanted to be able to do something to honor Shirley. Creating a garden in Boyds Mills in a similar location to the original victory garden seemed a fitting tribute. Funds for this garden were provided by donations from Shirley’s loving family members.
