Paying It Forward
Phoenix Farm Annex (The Jane Yolen Cabin) honors prolific children’s author Jane Yolen, and features copies of her work and decor from her home (the actual Phoenix Farm).
Jane and her daughter, fellow author Heidi EY Stemple, have also established a scholarship fund to “pay it forward” and help upcoming writers learn the craft and business of children’s publishing.

Encouraging Authors to Find Time and Place to Write
“From the beginning of my long career in publishing–first as an editor, then as a writer–I have believed in paying it forward. How else could I honor those who taught me all I know about writing–from my early school days to my high school and college teachers who encouraged my poetry and stories, to the editors who first published me? By paying it forward–whether by speaking, teaching, or starting scholarships and fellowships for young writers who might not otherwise have been as lucky as I, I can keep the line of writers safe. So they can find time and place to write their books, meet the editors, explore new ways of telling their stories, their histories; allowing them to bring their book to our libraries, our tables, our bedsides, our hearts.”—Jane Yolen
