Overview

A Two-Night Mini Online Course

Getting your book to readers is a goal for most writers, and agents can play an important role in this process. But how do you find an agent?

Often, the query letter is what connects writers to agents.

Unfortunately, navigating the querying trenches can seem like rough waters.

Need some tips and strategies to try? Join author and agent Linda Epstein for a deep dive into the purpose and structure of an effective query letter. This is an ideal course for those wanting an introduction to the basics of querying during two, 75-minute online sessions.

  • Tuesday, January 7, 2025 (7pm – 8:15pm Eastern)
  • Thursday, January 9, 2025 (7pm – 8:15pm Eastern)
  • Webinar-style program with closed captioning available and limited interaction in the chat
  • You’ll have access to the recordings through February 28, 2025.

Why This Workshop?

If you’re new to querying or want to polish your latest query letter, get tips and ideas for crafting a letter that grabs agent’s attention. Linda will break down the query process into tasks that you can use to write your next query letter and send to agents.

In this short course, you can expect:

  • An overview of terms used in the querying process,
  • The why of querying agents to help get your stories into the hands of readers,
  • How to find agents who are seeking to offer representation,
  • Most importantly, what to include in your query letter and why!

You’ll receive a detailed handout to use as your guide for crafting your next query letter.

Feedback Expected

  • None included in the course. There will be limited interaction in the chat feature of the webinar-style program. (Bring plenty of questions to share in the chat.)

It’s a Great Fit for…

  • Writers getting ready to query for the first time. Linda will offer an overview of the basics when it comes to writing query letters.
  • Writers who have been sending out queries and wish to revise their materials. This course will offer suggestions for what to include and what to leave out when preparing your query letter.
  • Storytellers looking for something short, sweet, and smart! This is not a full workshop. Instead it is two, 75-minute sessions meant to engage and build your foundational knowledge about crafting query letters.

Tentative Agenda

At registration: You will receive a Zoom link to use each night of the course.

Note: Sessions take place via Zoom. It is a good idea for you to install Zoom prior to the workshop. As a mini, this course will ask you to mute your microphones and hide your video to maximize time with the faculty lectures.

IF YOU CAN’T ATTEND LIVE:

If you are unable to attend either session for any reason, you’ll have access to the recordings (with closed captioning) through February 28, 2025.

  • Please note that if you cannot attend live but you’d like to receive recording links by email, you must register for this course.  Recordings are not sold separately; they are only available to those who register.
  • Please also note that if you register for the course after the start of the first session, you will not receive recordings immediately.  You’ll receive both recordings after the close of the last session, usually within 24 hours.
